Day #2 – (2011-06-22 Wednesday) – Why Low Calorie Diet

Before we go any further, why do I call this blog the ” Low Calorie Diet Guide “. It is not because I’m advocating eating next to nothing to lose weight. It is merely because I recognize the relationship. In order to lose weight you must expend more calories each day in comparison to what you take in. In other words, if you eat 1800 calories, you have to expend more than 1800 calories in order to start to lose weight. The difference must be “lower”.

I lost 1 lb since yesterday…so I’m moving in the right direction.

1) Meal #1 – We had our usual eggs for breakfast. We didn’t have any bacon, so I substituted a bit more peanut butter and cheese to make up the calorie count. Cup of tea.
2) Meal #2 – I missed my snack today so I will make it up later today. For lunch today I had chicken legs and a tomato and cheese sandwich.
3) Snack #1 – Luna Bar.
4) Meal #3 – Minestrone Soup & Salmon Sandwich.
5) Snack #2 – Trader Joe’s Fat-Free Yogurt.
6) Snack #3 – Trader Joe’s Raisin Bran with Milk.

At 11:30am I did my exercise routine. Same as yesterday, 6 exercises * 5 minutes each = 30 minutes.

1) Cardio – Jumping Jacks
2) Chest – Pushups
3) Biceps – Palms Out Curls
4) Triceps – French Press
5) Legs – Squats
6) Abs – Supine Pelvic Tilts

Day #1 – (2011-06-21 Tuesday) – The Journey Begins

Today is the first day of the actual diet. Here’s a bit of an overview…

I’m advocating 6 meals a day. Here is what I had today:
1) Breakfast – Bacon & Eggs. Toast & Jam. Mushrooms.
2) Snack – Chocolate Bar.
3) Lunch – Ground Turkey Burger.
4) Snack – Cashews.
6) Dinner – Ground Turkey Cheeseburger.
7) Snack – Milk & Brownie.

I also had my first workout today. Here are the exercises I followed:

1) Cardio – Jogging
2) Shoulders – Arm Circles
3) Back – Cat Camel
4) Hips – Hip Exercise #5
5) Calves – Toe Raises
6) Abs – Crunches

6 exercises at 5 minutes each = 30 minutes

Day #0 – (2011-06-20 Monday) – Preparation Day

M weight has really gotten out of hand as of late. What ever happened to that young boy who couldn’t gain a pound no matter what he ate? A lot of things as it turns out. I have be losing and gaining weight via various methods over the years…and I certainly have learned a lot on the subject. It’s time to put all this knowledge together…

We have a new 17 month old child…a girl…our first. It is imperative that her daddy get into shape so that he can have a long and healthy life to take care of her and the rest of the family. This is my primary motivation.

In this blog I am going to be cataloging my results. Today, as the title states, is preparation day. I need to write down the plan I will be implementing, and taking “before” photos, stuff like that.

I drove down to the local BP Gas Station to get a copy of the USA Today. As I assembled the camera and tripod on the hood of my car and took my “before” photos I wondered … “will this diet stick”? “Click”. What are the keys to “winning” in this “game” anyway? “Click”. How can I learn from the mistakes that I have made over the years. “Click”…”Click”…”Click”…

The “before” photos (shown in the photos to the left) were the easy part. Creating and implementing a plan that will stick is the hard part. This blog is a way to catalog this journey. What will work and what will not work. What will I learn, and what will benefit others.

The next step is to write down a few thoughts on foods and exercises. I decided to keep two spreadsheets…one on foods and the other on exercises. In terms of foods, I plan to eat six times a day, with the calorie breakdown for each meal. I’ll write more of these foods in later posts, but for now, here is the breakdown:

1) Breakfast – 400 cals
2) Snack – 200 cals
3) Lunch – 400 cals
4) Snack – 200 cals
5) Dinner – 400 cals
6) Snacks – 200 cals.

In terms of exercise I have created a spreadsheet of various exercises in various muscle groups. I have found some photos of these exercises and printed them out and put them on index cards. In this way I can shuffle through them quickly when I am actually doing the exercises. I’ll speak more of the exercise routine in subsequent posts.

So, this is my journey in the weight loss area. I hope that you will join along with me. If it can provide you with some hope and inspiration to get our own life in order in this area it will have succeeded…

Perform a basic crunch as above but keep the legs in the air the entire time. Next, move on to an advanced raised-knee crunch. Extend the legs out in front of you one inch off of the ground. Perform a crunch and bring the knees into the chest. Release and straighten the legs out once more keeping them above the ground. Finish off with an advanced twisting crunch. Start with the legs extended and just off of the floor. Perform a basic crunch and bring the knees towards the upper left side of the body. Lower the upper and lower body and repeat to the opposite side. Perform 10 to 15 reps of all advanced exercises.

Considerations
